Heavy bags hang from the building and are hit all day, so a boxing gym starts with the structure overhead and the neighbours. What the bags, the ring and the padding ask of the ceilings, walls and slab.
The mat sets the plan for a martial arts school. How we build the subfloor under a throwing mat, the backing behind the wall padding, the shoe line, the parents' viewing window and the walls that keep falls and shouting in.
The dining rooms, lounges and corridors of an aged care home are refurbished while residents go on living there. We set out what is built in each room and how the work runs around meals, rest and the fire system.
A day centre for older people runs around a shared day in one large room. We set out the activity room, quiet room, toilets, shower, kitchens and doors this adds to a leased shop or office.
An endoscopy unit is planned around cleaning each scope between patients. The procedure room needs ceiling pendants and up to three doors, and the scope rooms behind it need a machine set into the wall, treated water and exhaust.
A food production room is planned around where ready-to-eat food sits open. We explain the linings, ceilings, junctions, changeover room, doors and viewing glass we build around it.
A rehabilitation clinic is built around lifting and walking patients who cannot yet move on their own. We set out the hoist and harness tracks, gym walls, doors and practice rooms this adds to a tenancy.
A community health centre shares its rooms between services. We set out the identical consult and interview rooms, after-hours group rooms, duress and lock cabling, split waiting areas and the staff zone.
A laundromat sells machine time, so most of the build sits behind the machines. It covers drains for washers emptying together, a slab for the spin cycle, dryer ducts, gas, power and a customer area open long hours.
A pub refit is planned around the cellar that feeds every bar and around keeping the hotel open during the works. We can build the rooms around the cellar plant, the services under each bar and the toilets, in stages.
A waste or recycling site office is planned around keeping dust, odour, pests and contamination out of the rooms where staff eat, work and change. That sets the change rooms, the seals, the linings and the weighbridge office.
Several games run side by side behind closed doors. The rooms, locks and cabling are built so each game stays private and every player can get out at any moment.
A florist shop is planned around keeping flowers in water and cold. What that means for the workroom sinks and floor waste, the cool room front, wet floors and walls, and the route to the back door.
An orthodontic practice puts its chairs side by side in one open bay. Each chair still needs air, water, suction and power, and the plant room, brushing station, lab and X-ray room sit close around it.
The offices, entry, staging room and staff areas around a data centre's halls are built to keep the halls secure and clean. That shapes the dust controls, fire-rated walls, interlocking entry and amenities.
A craft distillery keeps a flammable spirit process apart from a public tasting room while letting visitors watch the still. We can build the wall, door and window on that line, the spirit store and the visitor rooms.
A student residence's shared rooms are used at every hour by people who live upstairs. We set out how resident numbers size the kitchens and laundries, and how loud rooms and the works are kept away from bedrooms.
Tyre shop customers often wait a few metres from the bays. What we build at the front, from the insulated wall and viewing window to the service office, technicians' amenities and a lockable tyre store.
Edit suites, a shoot room, review walls and a gear store each ask more of the build than a meeting room. What we frame, light, power and air condition for each, and where each one goes on the floor.
Every gaming station draws far more power and gives off far more heat than an office desk, and players are loud late into the night. That shapes the switchboard, the air conditioning, the walls and the lighting.
A ghost kitchen in a warehouse needs food rooms built inside a shell made for storage. We set out the kitchen bays, sealed ceilings, roof exhaust, pickup room and shared services we build and coordinate.
An English college fills an office floor with small classrooms and the shared rooms its standards ask for. We set out what we build in each room and what the building has to provide.
An oncology day unit is planned around patients who sit in a treatment chair for hours. The chair pods need daylight, privacy and staff oversight, and the drugs and their waste need rooms of their own.
A day spa is paid for quiet hours in treatment rooms. The build keeps those rooms quiet while showers, wet tables, a steam room and a busy laundry run beside them.
The rest of the library.
